It accomplishes this feat while managing to remain fun and relaxing, with soothing background music and a satisfying loop that gets more detail-oriented as life moves forward (or drags on).įrom a bird's-eye view, Unpacking is a point-and-click game about performing one of the most dreaded tasks known to humankind: unpacking your stuff after a move. Unpacking, a puzzle game of your own memories and psyche, taps into a wide range of emotions. And no matter where I call home, the angels are next to each other, just a glance away. Those angel bells, with progressively fading lettering, have been gently wrapped and kept safe throughout five moves. They went back to me as a keepsake, a reminder that even the smallest gestures of love can mean something big in time. When each of my grandmothers died-a decade apart-we found those insignificant angel bells prominently displayed in their homes. They were nothing special then, but they are right above me on my desk shelf as I write this. These fell firmly into the category of sentimental and arguably tacky gifts that kids often give to parents and grandparents. They probably cost five bucks each, purchased with my hard-earned allowance. One Christmas I gave both my grandmothers tiny ceramic angel bells with "Grandma" etched in blue ink. It’s a lovely, laid-back game with a gentle sense of 80s nostalgia - but aside from that hint, Lake feels pretty timeless if you’re looking for something undemanding and enjoyable, with a beautiful town to explore, Lake is your game.Unpacking gave me the key to remembrance, unlocking corners of my mind where small memories that have subconsciously shaped me are tucked away. Your days will be filled with quiet tasks, helping the townspeople, driving around Providence Oaks, and deciding what to do with your evenings. Meredith just needs to deliver post, build back relationships with the townspeople of Providence Oaks, and explore her hometown as she does. There is the big decision to make at the end of those two weeks - whether she’ll stay or leave - but there’s absolutely no pressure in the gameplay itself. Meredith has taken a break from her career at a software company to take over for her dad as the mail carrier in her hometown of Providence Oaks. Lake is another great fit for this list - it’s one of the most laid-back games to have launched in 2021, and revolves entirely around two weeks in the 80s in the life of Meredith Weiss. If a peaceful sigh was a game, it would be this one - and we’ve got an Omno walkthrough to help you out, too. Apart from the occasional time-sensitive puzzle, there’s absolutely no pressure on you at all as you solve puzzles and overcome obstacles - there’s no combat, either, just a variety of strange and mysterious creatures to observe as you travel. It’s a beautiful game where the exploration is perfectly complemented by a soaring soundtrack as you glide through deserts, snowfields, and forests. It’s a little hard to describe what it’s like, as Omno doesn’t go in for a story as such there was a lost civilisation that came before, and remnants of it litter the lush environments you travel through, but your journey is more about the experience of the journey itself, rather than any particular quest or mission. Omno seems like the perfect game to kickstart this list with - one of its greatest strengths is its peaceful atmosphere and the sense of natural, unhurried exploration unfolding ahead of you as you make your way through it.
